Park Avenue Loft
The clean modern conversion of this previously modified prewar apartment is a showcase of Wettling design paradigms. Care was taken to preserve select old-world details, such as crown molding and the intricate marble floor of the entryway, honed to soften its visual effect. But the greatest effect comes from Wettling’s signature interventions to create a sense of serene open space. Small openings between rooms typical in architecture of this era are heightened and widened, affording visual through lines and an abundance of light. The noise of excess casework is quieted by the use of clean, spare millwork. Finally, a palette of subtle grays was introduced to set off the clients’ exquisite collection of antique and modern art and furniture.
